“Music is my passion and livelihood,” says composer, worship leader and ordained minister Rashad McPherson. Rashad exhibited a love for music at a very early age, and was formally trained — on both piano and voice — in classical, gospel, and other contemporary styles of music.
In 2005, Rashad moved to Boston, MA to pursue an undergraduate degree from Berklee College of Music. While at Berklee, Rashad traveled throughout New England as one of the student directors of Berklee “Reverence” Gospel Ensemble. Additionally, he traveled abroad to Serbia, and numerous times to Aarau, Switzerland to participate in the Jazzaar Youth Music Festival. In 2009, Rashad graduated from Berklee College of Music and accepted a position as Minister of Music at Bethel A.M.E. Church (Boston, MA). He currently serves as Bethel’s Minister of Music and also as the Lower School General Music Teacher at Chestnut Hill School (Chestnut Hill, MA).
Rashad’s first project, titled: “More Than I Ever Had,” was very well received amongst gospel artists, announcers, bloggers, and aficionados. The album also received acclaim on Essence Magazine Online, along with various other emerging Christian artists.
As a performer, he has shared the stage with several of contemporary Christian music’s most recognizable voices; including Stellar Award Winners: JJ Hairston, Richard Smallwood, Kim Burrell and Jonathan Nelson; as well as Grammy Award Winners: Tye Tribbett, Marvin Sapp, Donnie McClurkin, Myron Butler, The Clark Sisters, and many more. Additionally, Rashad has collaborated with the Africana Studies Department of Berklee College of Music, and the Interfaith Campus Ministry of Boston College to produce tributes honoring the music and or legacy of Richard Smallwood, Tye Tribbett, The Clark Sisters, Kim Burrell, and the late Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Currently, Rashad is preparing to release his highly anticipated sophomore recording project, titled: “Better Things, Brighter Days.” This project marks the continuation of an anointed and powerful music ministry. This record will feature brand new material written and arranged by Rashad McPherson; production by Kevin Powell and others; not to mention guest appearances from Pastor J.P. Morgan, Jerome Kyles, Benita Washington, Nikki Ross, and multiple Stellar Award winner and eOne Recording Artist: Jonathan Nelson.
Rashad’s latest single “Reign in Majesty” was released to radio and digital outlets in February 2013. To date, “Reign in Majesty” has been played on radio stations across the country as well as abroad. Fans as near as Canada yet as far as India have supported the release.
In 2011, Rashad officially accepted the call to ministry, and preached his first sermon in November of that same year. In 2012, he began studies at Boston University: School of Theology. On March 22, 2014, Rashad was ordained within the National Baptist Convention by Pastor Selwyn Q. Bachus; the Senior Pastor of Salem Baptist Church (Omaha, NE). This past May, Rashad graduated with a Master of Divinity; with an emphasis in pastoral ministry. He is currently preparing to relocate to New York, NY to pursue a Master of Sacred Theology from Union Theological Seminary.

As we all know, books and course materials can be exorbitantly expensive. Certainly, there are so many things that vie for students' already limited resources.
Nonetheless, I know that we — concerned family, church, and community members — are committed to seeing the youth of our city succeed.
As such, on Friday, May 29, 2015, I will present up to two (2) book scholarship awards, in the amount of $250 each, at my CD Release Concert. I pray that this modest donation toward the cost of class materials will encourage and enable bright and promising students to fulfill their dreams of continuing their education in the area of fine arts.
To apply, the student must be a graduating high school senior, or enrolled in an undergraduate, associate, or vocational program.
If you know students who fit this criteria, please pass along.
